What is IndAS?

Ind AS = Indian Accounting Standards, converged with global IFRS standards.

Since 2016-17, all listed companies in India report under IndAS. Before that, they used the older Indian GAAP.

🗣️

"IndAS matlab ek standard tarika financial statements banane ka — taaki comparison ho sake."

Why does this matter to you?

  1. Comparability — all companies follow the same rules, so you can compare apples to apples
  2. Data consistency — InvestingSamjho data uses IndAS field names (e.g. revenue_from_operations, total_comprehensive_income)
  3. Historical breaks — pre-2017 data may not be directly comparable

Key IndAS concepts for beginners

Term What it means
Revenue from Operations Core business income (not investments)
Other Income Interest, dividend, one-time gains
Total Comprehensive Income Profit + unrealised gains/losses

On InvestingSamjho

Our data uses standardised IndAS fields. When you see field names like profit_before_tax or total_income, they follow IndAS taxonomy.

Don't memorise all fields

You'll learn the important ones as we go through P&L (Week 04) and Balance Sheet (Week 05). For now, just know that a standard exists.

Key takeaway

IndAS ensures all companies report financials in the same format. This makes your job as an analyst much easier.
